EMPOWERING LIVES WITH PURPOSE:
The Bible has a lot to say about anger. In fact, the word “anger” appears in the Bible over two hundred times! So it’s clear that God knows we get angry, and He wants us to understand how to deal with our emotions in a healthy way.
Dealing with the emotions of another can often be difficult. Are you affected by an angry person?
Anger is an issue almost everywhere we turn. People are on very short fuses these days as they want more and more and receive less and less.
“Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.” (Proverbs 19:11)
Anger that worsens when stewed upon can become damaging to the soul. Many circumstances cause anger to rage.
Often times anger can result from “fear” or “unmet expectations,” and life is full of both. We can encounter anger rages often, and if we don’t control our own emotions, and others don’t control theirs, it results in degrees of devastation to our bodies.
What we “can” control and better manage is our own anger or flare-ups and keep it restricted as we live within God’s kingdom. This takes self-discipline and a heart of confession when we mess up. In doing so, God will shape your character, and you will learn how to combat anger by facing your fears and the expectations you may have placed on yourself and others. Ask God to help you. Read scriptures on anger. Memorize them.
“Be not quick in your spirit to become angry for anger lodges in the hearts of fools.” (Proverbs 14:29)
Remember to give yourself and others “grace” as Jesus gave you. Change is slow. Don’t put expectations where they don’t belong. This is a spiritual exercise we can all try.
Give yourself, as well as others, a “pause.” Take it to God in prayer, and as a very wise woman taught within our leadership meeting one evening…she stated, “Hey girl, give yourself some grace.” A quite many of us won’t forget. (Thx, Dr. Jia R Conway)
