VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
Change Your Story
Ten years ago, I looked through journals that had once been filled with hopes and dreams and instead saw page after page of regret and guilt. I was fighting the same battles, struggling with the same issues, drinking twenty beers a day, living with anxiety, and desperately wondering how long this could continue.
Then a voice deep within my soul answered: As long as you let yourself.
I wanted to change my story, but change felt overwhelming. That’s what change does sometimes—we look at everything that needs fixing and become paralyzed before we even begin.
But I learned something important:
We have to deal to heal.
Romans 12:2 tells us we are “transformed by the renewing of your mind” (NIV). We do not have to accept the lie that because we’ve struggled with addiction, depression, anxiety, unhealthy relationships, bad habits, or destructive thinking, we’re destined to remain there forever.
Change begins by aligning what we believe about ourselves with what God says about us.
Write down who you believe you are. Then search Scripture and write down who God says you are. Compare those lists. When your thoughts contradict His truth, cross them out.
Jesus said, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32, NIV).
Changing your story requires surrender, desire, decision, faith, and practical action. It isn’t easy, and past decisions may have consequences. But even detours cannot cancel God’s divine plan. Where you are is not who you are. As long as you are breathing, God has purpose for your life.
Underneath the mess is a masterpiece waiting to be discovered. So fight for truth. Renew your mind. Take the next step. You can change your story—not into the person life has molded, but into the person God created you to be.
