EMPOWERING LIVES WITH PURPOSE:
Hands to Heaven
by guest writer/singer, songwriter: Sara Sahm
This song was birthed out of a lot of pain.  I was struggling at the time with severe depression and anxiety. It took all my strength to pray, and the thought of worship seemed impossible.  I was given a card with Isaiah 41:10,
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.”
Those words were so encouraging to me and led me to Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV.
“Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you, he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
For me, the “them” was the voices in my head telling me I was a failure, that because I was struggling, I shouldn’t come to God.  I was thankful for the encouragement the Word had given me, but I wasn’t sure what to do next.  God then led me to the answer once again: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV.
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances: for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
In the pain, I made a conscious decision to lift my hands and worship.  I got on my knees, and I prayed.  At first, it felt so awkward, and I wanted to quit, but I kept worshiping.  It was in that place of brokenness I found what willingness is.  I learned that my human thoughts and feelings cannot be depended upon-but God’s Word can!
So today I encourage you, lift your hands in worship and bow your head to pray.  No matter the circumstance God’s word is still true.  He is with you and waiting to meet you wherever you are.  Don’t let feelings cloud your faith!
