VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
The Power of Words
Words matter.
From the very beginning of creation, words carried power. “And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light” (Genesis 1:3).
Through His spoken word, God created the heavens, the earth, and humanity itself.
Throughout history, words have shaped lives and changed the course of events.
When Moses spoke the words “Let my people go,” freedom began for the Israelites. When Mary heard the angel say she would give birth to Jesus, those words set in motion the greatest story ever told.
Even simple phrases carry incredible impact.
“I do” begins a lifelong covenant.
“I love you” can mend a broken heart.
“I forgive you” can restore a relationship.
Many of us grew up hearing the phrase, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” Yet experience tells us the opposite is often true.
Words may not leave physical bruises, but they can penetrate the heart and mind in lasting ways. Scripture teaches us to use our words wisely: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up.” (Ephesians 4:29)
The tongue may be small, but its influence is powerful. Our words can encourage and bring life—or they can wound and destroy.
Every day we are given the opportunity to choose how we will speak.
Will our words bring hope?
Will they encourage someone who is struggling?
Will they point others toward God’s love?
Perhaps the greatest use of our words is to share the good news of Jesus Christ.
Because sometimes a few spoken words can change a life forever.
