VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
My Beautiful Mess

Sometimes the most unforgettable moments in life hold both fear and gratitude at the same time.

Our family traveled from sunny Florida to snowy Utah so our kids could experience the winter sports they loved growing up in Michigan. One day we decided to try snowmobiling in the mountains. The scenery looked like something from a movie—white birch trees, towering pines, and breathtaking views. Everything felt perfect.

Until it wasn’t.

During a turnaround on the trail, the snowmobile my son was riding on flipped, trapping his leg beneath it. As parents, nothing prepares you for the terror of seeing your child hurt. We ran through the deep snow, praying the entire way.

Thankfully, he was conscious and alive. While his ankle was broken and his knee injured, we knew things could have been far worse. In that moment, gratitude filled my heart. God had protected him.

Even something as small as the boot he wore felt like divine intervention. The boot he originally wanted was wet, so he had chosen a sturdier ski boot instead—likely preventing even greater injury.

Life is often a mixture of beauty and hardship, joy and fear, gratitude and pain—all at the same time. In those moments we remember the promise found in Scripture:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.” (Romans 8:28)

As I rode back down that mountain with my children behind me, I realized something powerful. Every one of my kids processed that trauma differently. Each one needed something different from me as their mother.

God reminded me that parenting is more than raising children—it is learning how God uniquely designed each one so we can love them well.
Even in the messiest moments of life, God is present, protecting, teaching, and revealing His grace.
