VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
Sunset with a Purpose

Our family has always loved sunsets. There is something sacred about watching God paint the sky in a new way each evening — a reminder of His glory, His creativity, and His faithfulness. One particular sunset now holds even deeper meaning for me, as it marked not only a beautiful moment in nature, but also a new beginning for our middle daughter.

As a mother in the season of being the Mother of the Bride, I was reminded once again that God is never finished teaching us. Each life transition brings lessons — if we are willing to pause long enough to ask Him to show us. Scripture tells us, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us… and train us to do what is right” (2 Timothy 3:16, NLT).

Weddings don’t always look the way parents imagine. Traditions change, expectations shift, and sometimes our children choose paths different from what we envisioned. In our case, letting go of a traditional wedding — and the role I once held as my daughter’s primary guide — was not easy. But with God’s help, I made a conscious decision to support her unconditionally.

As parents, our role evolves. We move from directing to supporting, from guiding to trusting. One phrase my husband and I often remind ourselves of is, “Appreciate the similarities and respect the differences.” With God’s grace, we can do both.

Though relationships change, prayer remains constant. Just as we prayed for our daughter growing up, we now pray for her marriage — trusting God to lead, protect, and strengthen them. “Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you” (Deuteronomy 31:6, NLT).
As the sun set on that wedding day, one chapter closed and another began. God’s glory shone brightly in both. And as parents, we rest in this truth: God’s love for our children far exceeds our own — and He is always in control.
