VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
Count Your Blessings
Everyone desires good things around us. We often strive for material success, influential relationships or personal satisfaction measuring ourselves against what we see on social media or in the world around us. Yet Scripture invites us to redirect our focus—to gratitude for the One from whom all good things come.
Our Creator knows our needs intimately. Isaiah reminds us that God has engraved us on the palms of His hands—we are never forgotten. Psalm 23 assures us that we lack nothing because our Shepherd faithfully provides. Every good and perfect gift comes from God, including peace, protection, His presence, and grace in every circumstance. These are blessings worthy of our thanks.
The beloved hymn Count Your Blessings encourages us to pause when we feel burdened or discouraged and intentionally reflect on what God has already done. When we name and remember His blessings, our worries begin to loosen their grip. Blessings cannot be earned or bought—they are gifts of God’s faithfulness and love. Gratitude restores hope and peace as we recognize His provision in both ordinary and extraordinary ways.
This practice of gratitude is something we must also teach our children. Daily, we can acknowledge God’s gifts—sunsets and rain, provision and protection, healing, forgiveness, and salvation—and ask the Holy Spirit to open our eyes to His works.
We are also invited to pray blessings over others. The priestly blessing in Numbers reminds us how simple and powerful it is to ask God’s favor, grace, and peace for family, friends, and even strangers.
Let us choose each day to count our blessings, teach gratitude, and pass God’s favor to others through prayer.
