VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
Decisive Moments in Time
Life is filled with decisive moments. Some seem small; others radically alter the direction of our lives.
One of mine happened while I was serving as a guest lecturer in South Africa. Early one morning, the Lord woke me and spoke to my spirit about one of my students, Mathapelo: She is the daughter you’ve always wanted. Then He flooded my heart with love for her. I was thrilled—and completely confused. I was returning to the United States in less than three weeks!
Within months, God revealed what He meant. He asked whether I would be willing to step away from pastoring my church and district leadership positions to support Mathapelo as she came to the United States for theological education. God had broken into my carefully ordered world, and that decisive moment changed both our lives.
Mark 1:14–15 records an infinitely greater decisive moment. The time foretold by the prophets had arrived. Jesus came proclaiming, “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” (NIV).
That announcement demands a decision from every one of us.
Jesus calls us to turn from sin and believe that He is the promised Savior. No one escapes the choice; even refusing to decide is itself a decision. When we repent and believe, however, we experience a decisive moment with eternal consequences.
But accepting Jesus isn’t the end of the mission. It becomes the beginning of ours. We are invited to carry His good news into our own world.
If your heart desires to be used by God, be prepared. He may break into your plans with an assignment you never anticipated.
When that decisive moment comes, will you say yes?
Your obedience may not only change your life.
God may use it to change someone else’s forever.
