VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
I Believe
“Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24, NKJV).
I love the honesty of that prayer because sometimes faith is exactly like that. We believe—and yet doubts remain. The world tells us that if something cannot be physically proven, it cannot be real. But Hebrews 11:1 tells us faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we cannot see.
As my relationship with God has deepened, I’ve discovered evidence of Him everywhere. One of the clearest places I see His faithfulness is in prayer. If faith is a gift, prayer is how we unwrap it. Prayer opens our eyes to recognize where God has been working all along.
I keep a quote in my home that says, “I still remember the days I prayed for the things I have now.” What a reminder! Looking backward helps me recognize answered prayers—and even unanswered prayers that eventually revealed God’s wisdom and goodness.
We can also be honest with Him about doubt. God already knows it’s there. Jesus said faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains (Matthew 17:20). The very act of bringing our uncertainty to God is itself an act of faith.
That truth inspired me to write a song based on Mark 9:24 because the verse gave language to something many believers experience: God, I believe, but I still doubt. Help me. For me, those words became a stepping stone back toward Him.
Faith isn’t something we manufacture anyway. Ephesians 2:8 reminds us that even faith is God’s gift.
So stop asking yourself, Do I have enough faith?
Bring God what you have—even if it feels mustard-seed small.
We may never possess perfect faith on this earth.
What a relief to know we have a perfect God.
