VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
Sunset with a Purpose
There is something special about a sunset. Each one is unique, reflecting God’s creativity and glory in a fresh way. For our family, sunsets have become reminders of God’s faithfulness and the new seasons He orchestrates in our lives.
One particular sunset carried special meaning as I watched my daughter begin a new chapter through marriage.
As parents, we often imagine how milestones will unfold. We picture weddings, celebrations, and family traditions. Yet life doesn’t always follow the script we create. Sometimes our children choose paths that look different from what we envisioned.
That was true for me.
Letting go of expectations surrounding my daughter’s wedding wasn’t easy. But God gently reminded me that my role was not to control the outcome but to support, encourage, and trust Him.
As children grow, our relationship with them changes. We move from directing their lives to praying for their decisions and cheering them on as they seek God for themselves.
Deuteronomy 31:6 reminds us, “Be strong and courageous… the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”
That promise applies to our children too.
As I watched the sun set on my daughter’s wedding day, I realized it symbolized more than the end of a celebration. It marked the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another. Yet God’s glory shone brightly over both.
The same God who guided us through childhood, school years, and family milestones would continue guiding this new family as they built a life together.
Change can be difficult. Letting go can be painful. But we can trust that God’s love for our children far exceeds our own.
And that truth allows us to celebrate every new beginning He creates.
