Friendship and Faith
One of God’s sweetest gifts is friendship. Not the surface-level kind, but the kind where you can share real life—the victories, the disappointments, the questions, and the messy middle. Proverbs 27:9 says, “The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense.”
Recently, during a phone call with a dear friend, we began discussing life, faith, and our children. My son was wrestling with uncertainty about his future and feeling as though he should be farther along in life. As we talked, I was reminded of how easily all of us can find ourselves in similar places. We know God is faithful. We know He has a plan. Yet when life feels uncertain, our feelings often wage war against our faith.
Have you ever been there?
As believers, we want guarantees. We want a roadmap. We want to know what comes next. But faith has never been about seeing the entire path. Faith is about trusting God when we cannot.
During our conversation, my friend shared a simple but profound thought: “Faith is being fully dependent on God.”
That statement stopped me in my tracks.
Faith is not simply believing God exists. It’s relying on Him completely—especially when life feels uncertain. The pandemic reminded many of us of that truth. Jobs changed. Plans shifted. The future felt fragile. Yet God remained faithful.
Deuteronomy 31:8 reminds us, “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
The future may be uncertain, but the One who holds our future is not.
God often uses faithful friends to remind us of His promises and point us back to Him when our faith feels weak. I’m grateful for those friends in my life, and I pray you have them too.
Together, we can encourage one another to trust God fully and remain dependent on Him through every season.
