EMPOWERING LIVES WITH PURPOSE:
 Have A Teachable Heart
By: Connie VanHorn
(John 8:31–32)
“Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Are you ready and willing to go where God has called you? Are you struggling with feelings of doubt, self-worth, and just not being good enough? I know these feelings very well. This is how I feel most days. But the good news is that Jesus wasn’t searching for the most educated, skilled, or capable people. He was looking for faithful, available, and teachable souls that are willing to go… even if!
God says, “I will help you.”
All you need is a teachable heart and being willing to change.
God is not looking for a perfect body. He’s looking for a willing heart.
To be changed (transformed) we have to admit that something is wrong and we need to change. Change can be hard and painful. It certainly was for me. I had things I didn’t want to let go… and things I let go of too soon. I had to learn to forgive people that hurt me deeply. I didn’t want to forgive just yet. My scars were still fresh, but I learned that I couldn’t fully understand or accept God’s love for me if I refused to forgive others first. Most importantly, I had to learn how to love all people. Hard people. The people that don’t always love you back. This is not easy to do, especially if you’ve been hurt. God calls us to agape love… even if!
God is more concerned with our character than He is with our comfort. This means, sometimes, it’s going to be uncomfortable. If we want to be used/saved/teachable we must be willing to see the truth about ourselves.
Even if it hurts!
Don’t just listen to the word.
Act on it!
Romans 12:2
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Be (teachable) and allow God to change you into the person that He created you to be. Lay down your old life and he’ll make all things new.
Yes… You!!
It doesn’t matter what you’ve done or if you feel you are not good enough to be in God’s family. That was me. I thought I had to fix myself first… but I had it wrong. God invites us in and then He changes us. There is no person too far gone. All lives are repairable. All hope is not lost. God can heal and mend and reweave the fabric of our lives (heart.)
Forgiveness and love.
This is Grace. ✨✨✨✨
It’s not about making bad people good. We are all filled with sin. It’s making all people NEW and allowing God to do the fixing. Come as you are.
Look at the caterpillar: its belly down, not appealing, same old crawling thing that would never change without the Grace from a loving God. The creator of all living things. It’s His Grace that changes us.
Jesus offers new lives for our old life. Legs for wings.
Be teachable, take His offer
and Fly!
