VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
What You Treasure Is Where Your Heart Is
We all have treasures.
Perhaps yours is a valuable collectible, a cherished piece of jewelry, or a childhood possession that once made you feel like part of the “cool” crowd. Maybe it’s a collection of handmade crafts, an old letter jacket from someone special, or photographs capturing beautiful family memories.
But not every treasure can be held in our hands.
Some of our greatest treasures are relationships—with parents, lifelong friends, new friends, and especially our Heavenly Father, El Roi, the God who sees and knows us. We treasure His wisdom, His Word, and His unending love.
The question is whether our lives reflect what we say we treasure.
Jesus said, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21, ESV).
Whatever we treasure receives our attention, energy, affection, and time. That’s why we must be careful about what occupies the highest places in our hearts.
Are we scrolling through our phones while our children are begging for attention? Are we more interested in listening to our favorite playlist than using a car ride to teach our children about God’s blessings? Does purchasing another luxury item matter more than meeting a genuine family need?
Jesus demonstrated what truly mattered. He treasured prayer with His Father, teaching God’s Word, helping the hurting, healing the sick, and offering hope to the lost.
So let’s examine our own priorities. Do we treasure time with loved ones? Do we seek God in prayer? Does our relationship with Him fill us with love, joy, peace, and everlasting hope?
If your heart is rightly focused, praise God for those riches! If not, ask Him to redirect your attention toward what matters eternally. The greatest treasures aren’t always things we possess. They’re often the things we choose to pursue.
Store up treasures in Heaven, where their value will never fade.
