VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
Provisions
My first glimpse of truly recognizing my Heavenly Father as Provider came in one of the most unusual places imaginable:
My grandmother’s bathroom. 😂
My “Non” lived in a tiny old house on a huge piece of property, and before she renovated rooms, we grandchildren were basically allowed to do whatever we wanted in them. When she prepared to demolish her only bathroom, she gave us permission to write on everything. So we did!
We covered the tub, toilet, walls, sink area, and even ceiling with drawings, encouraging words, and Bible verses. In my first-grade handwriting, I wrote Psalm 23 across the old wooden door directly opposite the toilet.
Because Non didn’t have the money to renovate immediately, our masterpiece remained for years. And every time I sat in that bathroom, I read those words until eventually I had memorized the entire Psalm.
“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1, KJV)
Only God could use childhood bathroom graffiti to plant His truth permanently in my heart!
Psalm 23 teaches us that God provides and protects. He leads us beside still waters, restores our souls, walks with us through dark valleys, and remains our Shepherd through every season.
His provision isn’t limited to financial or physical needs, either. He provides wisdom, guidance, strength, peace, and everything we need spiritually. Philippians 4:19 promises that God will supply all our needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus.
Jesus invites us to ask, seek, and knock—and then to recognize and thank our Father for His provision.
So today, stop and notice. What has God provided that you may have begun taking for granted? Remember your Provider. Give Him thanks.
And maybe never underestimate what God can teach you in a bathroom. 😉
