VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
My Body Is a Temple
Wellness has never been something I could take for granted. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when I was just two-and-a-half years old. For nearly four decades, finger pricks, needles, monitoring blood sugar, and carrying emergency juice have simply been part of my life.
And believe it or not, today I’m grateful for it.
I know that sounds like crazy talk! But diabetes gave me a reason from an early age to pay attention to my health. Eventually, that personal experience became part of my purpose as a holistic wellness coach, helping others improve their health and prevent disease.
First Corinthians 6:19–20 asks, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit…?” and then instructs us to honor God with our bodies (NIV).
I’ve watched people facing illness decide they are “broken,” and I’ve watched others continually put their health at the bottom of the priority list because nothing serious has happened—yet. Often it takes a health scare before we decide to change.
But what if it didn’t?
What if we saw caring for our bodies as an act of stewardship rather than punishment? What if we exercised the self-control God has given us—not from fear, obsession, or striving, but because these bodies are beautiful temples where His Spirit dwells?
Diabetes taught me to lean on God for wisdom and discipline. Instead of allowing it to become a lifelong pity party, God has used it to make me stronger and help others recognize how amazing their bodies truly are.
So I’ll ask you the same question I’ve had to ask myself:
Are you treating your body as the temple God created it to be?
May we honor Him with our whole lives—spirit, soul, and body.
