OICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
When God Establishes Your Steps

As I walk barefoot along the beach, I sometimes think about all the places my feet have been. They are feet that once wandered but eventually found the narrow path. Feet that turned back toward the Father and took that first step toward Jesus. Feet that walked away from sin and learned what it meant to stand firm in faith.

These feet have traveled through wilderness seasons where forgiveness was found. They have fled fighting, fear, and frustration and discovered freedom, fulfillment, and a future on the other side. Along the way, I’ve learned not to run too far ahead of God but to walk beside Him as He leads. Sometimes His next step for me has actually been a step backward. Sometimes He has simply asked me to stand still.

My feet have taken me far from home and brought me back again. They have walked down an aisle and in and out of hospital rooms. They have learned what it means to walk in someone else’s shoes and to say yes when God asks me to go somewhere unexpected.

Proverbs 16:9 says, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps” (NIV). My plans have not always looked like His plans, but the steps sustained by His Spirit have taken me farther than I ever could have gone alone.

And someday, these feet will take their final earthly step and move one step closer to Heaven.

There, I’ll lay my crown at the feet of Jesus—the feet once washed with tears and covered with perfume; the feet that carried Good News; the feet nailed to a cross so that mine could someday walk to Him.

Until then, I’ll keep walking wherever He leads, trusting this promise: “The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him” (Psalm 37:23, NIV).
