VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
Carpe Diem — Seize the Day!
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:34, NIV)
Those words bring me instant relief every time I read them. Life moves quickly, and in a world demanding immediate answers and instant gratification, simply slowing down and being present can feel almost impossible. Yet I’m learning to ask God a much simpler question: Lord, what is Your will for me—just for today?
For me, learning to live one day at a time began with hope—hope that I could have a life free from addiction to drugs and alcohol and hope that I could truly know God. I have now been in recovery from Substance Use Disorder for almost eleven years. At rock bottom, after decades of turning my back on God, He rescued me from a desperate suicide attempt and began rebuilding my life through His grace and mercy.
Along the journey, I learned what Carpe Diem—“seize the day”—could mean through the lens of faith. It means intentionally receiving today, drawing close to God, following His will, and trusting that “I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13, NIV). Step by step and one day at a time, God broke the chains that had held me captive.
If you or someone you love is struggling, please know there is hope. Recovery is possible. Jesus reminds us, “With God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26, NIV).
We don’t have to figure out tomorrow today. We can receive God’s grace for this moment, trust Him with the next step, and keep moving forward.
Carpe Diem, my friend.
Seize the day God has given you.
