Hope on the Mountain
When I was twenty-six, Jesus saved my life. It wasn’t a fleeting emotional moment. It was a full-heart rescue that changed my direction, desires, and deepest “yes.” That yes eventually led me into global missions, where I’ve had the privilege of watching hope enter places where despair once lived. But recently, my own life needed hope.
After eight years of marriage, my husband and I separated for biblical reasons. I was heartbroken, yet after prayer, counsel, and surrender, I knew God was leading me forward.
In the middle of that season, I traveled to Panama to visit Hope Zones serving vulnerable children. I had been fasting and praying, Speak, Lord. I’m listening.
Deep in the mountains, I met a joyful woman involved in missions and felt prompted to tell her my story—childhood abuse, rejection, abandonment, and the painful ending of my marriage. Then she showed me the small cross she wore where her wedding ring once sat. She had walked a similar road. For years, she believed divorce had disqualified her from being used by God. But He had shown her otherwise.
Then she looked at me and said words my heart desperately needed: “The best part of your story is ahead of you.”
I wept.
On a mountain in Panama, God reminded me: I was not disqualified. Romans 8:1 declares, “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (NIV).
I’ve learned that purpose doesn’t erase pain, but it gives pain context. Fasting makes room to hear God. Serving turns our eyes outward. And surrender allows Him to redeem chapters we thought had ruined our story.
If you’re walking through a valley, realign and reset. Lift your eyes. Make space for God to speak. And when the enemy says you’re too broken, too late, or too complicated, answer him:
God is not finished with me. The best part of your story may still be ahead.
