VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
Floundering to Flourishing
Have you ever felt like you were simply going through the motions with God?
I know I have.
There are days when I move through my to-do list checking off tasks and accomplishments while treating my quiet time with the Lord like just another item to complete. Before long, worry, anxiety, and busyness begin crowding out the peace God wants me to experience.
Matthew 6:34 reminds us, “Do not be anxious about tomorrow.”
Yet so often, I find myself worrying about tomorrow instead of trusting God with today.
That’s what floundering looks like.
The Israelites experienced it after God delivered them from Egypt. Instead of trusting Him fully, they struggled with impatience, fear, and the desire to remain in control.
If I’m honest, I sometimes do the same thing.
The turning point comes when we stop trying to lead and allow God to lead instead.
Jesus gives us the key in Matthew 6:33: “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.”
That’s how we move from floundering to flourishing.
Flourishing isn’t about success, wealth, or having life perfectly together. Flourishing is thriving spiritually. It’s growing in grace, experiencing God’s peace, and developing a deeper relationship with Him.
The path is surprisingly simple. Give God your first. Your first thoughts. Your first moments. Your first affection. Your first attention.
When we seek Him before everything else, our hearts become anchored in His presence instead of tossed about by anxiety and distraction.
Today, let’s make a fresh commitment to place God first.
When we do, we stop floundering and begin flourishing in the life He intended for us all along.
