VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
Fasting:

Waiting for Answers from God?
When many people hear the word fasting, they immediately think about dieting, weight loss, or health trends. But biblical fasting is about something much deeper. It’s about creating space to hear from God.

Years ago, while following a raw food diet for health reasons, I noticed something unexpected happening. As food became less of my focus, God became more of my focus. I found myself spending more time in prayer, becoming more aware of the Holy Spirit’s presence, and hearing His guidance in ways I never had before.
Later, I chose to fast intentionally for spiritual reasons. I needed answers. My circumstances were confusing, and my own thoughts were leading me in circles. As I surrendered certain foods and distractions, I discovered that fasting created room for God to speak. The answers that came weren’t always what I would have chosen, but they carried His wisdom, peace, and direction.

Jeremiah 29:13 promises, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Fasting is not about earning God’s favor. It’s not about proving our spirituality. It’s about removing distractions that compete for our attention and making room for the voice of the One who knows us best.

Maybe your fast isn’t food. Perhaps it’s social media, television, constant busyness, or anything that keeps your focus divided. The goal is not the sacrifice itself—it’s intimacy with God.

Jesus reminded us in Matthew 4:4 that we do not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. When we make space for Him, we often discover that what our hearts have been searching for can only be found in His presence.
