VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
How Shall We Pray?
“How shall we pray?”
That question has come up more times than I can count—especially among those walking through recovery and searching for something more.
For years, I lived disconnected from God. If I ever spoke to Him, it was in desperation—asking Him to fix a situation, making promises I couldn’t keep. But it wasn’t until I reached the lowest point of my life that I realized God had been there all along.
Prayer became the place where my relationship with Him began.
At first, it felt awkward. I didn’t know what to say or how to say it. I would sit in my closet and whisper, “God, can you hear me? I don’t know what I’m doing… but I’m coming to You.”
And I kept coming.
Over time, something shifted. What once felt unfamiliar became something I looked forward to—like a quiet, sacred moment at the end of each day. As I began to surrender my will to His, I started to recognize His presence more clearly.
Jesus gave us a model for prayer:
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name… your will be done…” —Matthew 6:9–10 (NIV)
Prayer connects us to the heart of God. It realigns us with His will, reminds us of His provision, and anchors us in His truth.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord… “plans to give you hope and a future.” —Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
We don’t need perfect words. We simply need a willing heart.
Wherever you are, however you come—just begin.
He is listening.
