VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
The Promise Keeper
Promises do not seem to carry the same weight they once did.
Over time, many of us have experienced the disappointment of words that were never fulfilled. Broken promises can quietly teach us to protect our hearts. To lower expectations. To trust less so we hurt less.
I learned to do the same.
Vulnerability is risky. Trust requires openness. And when you have experienced rejection or abandonment, believing someone will truly show up can feel unsafe. So I convinced myself that not fully trusting was the best solution.
Until the day I truly needed someone.
I needed help. I needed support. I needed someone to say, “You can count on me.” But in that moment of honest reflection, I realized I did not have that person in the way I longed for. Sadness and frustration surfaced.
Then something shifted.
As I looked back over my life, I saw a pattern: though people had disappointed me, I had never been alone. God had always made a way. He had provided. Strengthened. Sustained. He was not absent — He was ahead of me, preparing the path.
I had placed my ultimate hope in people instead of in the Lord.
Scripture reminds us, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5, NKJV). Unlike human promises, God’s Word does not fail. His faithfulness is not dependent on circumstances or convenience.
When we shift our expectations from people to the Lord, something changes. We can accept help when it is offered without fear when it is not. We can rest knowing that even if others fall short, God never does.
He is the Promise Keeper.
And in Him, our trust is secure.
