Faith in Action
When was the last time you put your faith into action?
Faith is more than belief—it is trust that Jesus is who He says He is and can do what He says He can do. In Mark 2:1–12, we see faith come alive through the actions of four determined friends. Convinced that Jesus could heal their paralyzed friend, they refused to be stopped by obstacles. When the front door was blocked by a crowd, they carried their friend to the roof, dug through it, and lowered him down to Jesus. That is faith in action.
What happens next is unexpected. Instead of immediately healing the man, Jesus says, “Son, your sins are forgiven” (Mark 2:5, NIV). Why forgiveness first? Jesus reveals a deeper truth—that sin is more debilitating than physical sickness and that He alone has authority to forgive. This moment shifts from a healing story to a bold declaration of who Jesus is.
The religious leaders are unsettled. Rather than rejoicing, they question Jesus’ authority and accuse Him of breaking man-made Sabbath rules. Jesus knows their thoughts and responds—not only by healing the man physically, but by demonstrating His divine authority publicly.
This story confronts each of us with an essential question: Who is this Jesus? If we believe He is God, then faith requires action. Like the paralytic’s friends, we must persist—refusing to let obstacles stop us from bringing ourselves and others to Him.
Faith moves Jesus to act. When we believe and step forward in trust, we open the door to experience what only He can do.
