EMPOWERING LIVES WITH PURPOSE:
How much do we consider the health of our hearts? I think about it often since heart issues run on both sides of my family tree. However, the heart health issues I am speaking of today are our “inner hearts.”
“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)
Isn’t it comforting to know that God does not judge us in the same way other people judge us or even in the harsh way we sometimes judge ourselves? God is concerned with what is inside our hearts.
God doesn’t place value on our outward looks, where we rank on social media, what our financial status is, or any other external things the world may consider important.
As I listened to my Bible app this morning, God said David was a man after God’s own heart. David’s social status within his family was so low that he wasn’t even called in from the fields to meet with Samuel. But David was God’s choice to become king over Israel. And from his family line, we’d see a Savior that God would provide to us! God didn’t see David the way his own family saw him; remember this.
Sometimes, others don’t see you the way God sees you. God is always looking at your heart’s attitude. He knows your thoughts, He knows your motives, He knows it all.
I examine my heart as often as I think about it, which is daily. It’s part of my prayer time with the Lord. Are my motives right? Are my thoughts pure? Is God able to use my heart to help others today? I know if God can use a young shepherd like David, he can use me or you or any one of us in a big way, a mighty way, just as He used David.
Let us make our hearts available to God’s power to see what amazing things He can and will do through us even today.
My life verse since I surrendered my life to Christ has been Ephesians 3:20. I hope you’ll take the time to look it up in different versions. Today’s version is the NIV.
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.” (Ephesians 3:20)
