VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
We Are Broken…
Ever since Adam and Eve chose their own way in the Garden, humanity has been trying to do the same. We want control. We want ownership. We convince ourselves that stepping outside God’s boundaries will finally bring the happiness and freedom we’re searching for. But it never does.
We can read the Old Testament and shake our heads at the Israelites’ repeated unfaithfulness, but the uncomfortable truth is—we’re no different. We still chase idols.
We still look to relationships, success, comfort, pleasure, and distraction to satisfy needs only God can fill. Jeremiah 2:13 paints a powerful picture: we abandon God, the source of living water, and dig our own broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
Our brokenness isn’t the problem. We’re broken people living in a fallen world. The problem is where we take our brokenness. We keep trying to fill our deepest needs from sources that were never designed to sustain us.
Jesus invites us into something entirely different: dependence.
Not trying harder.
Not controlling more.
Surrender.
Proverbs 3:5 tells us, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (NIV).
That begins with repentance—turning away from the places we’ve searched for life and returning to the One who is life. Then we allow God’s truth to replace the lies we’ve believed. His way is better. He is good. He is for us. And as we spend time in His Word and listen to the Holy Spirit, those truths take deeper root. We were never created to live independently of God. We were created to be held by Him.
So bring Him your brokenness. Return to your Source. Depend completely upon your beautiful, loving Creator. And there, in His arms, discover the rest your heart has been searching for all along.
