What does our Bible say about memorizing scriptures?
When I became a born-again Christian in 1978, my pastor, Brother Cecil, and Susie Ferguson, told me how important it was to memorize the Word of God.
I loved God with all my heart, but at that time, I was a brand new Christian coming out of a horrendous life of abuse.
I never went to school, and I couldn’t read. Oh, how I wanted to read every scripture that would help me and teach me about God.
1 Corinthians 2:16
“But I have the mind of Christ (the Messiah) and do hold the thoughts (feelings and purposes) of His heart.”
Talk about being “excited,” I wrote that scripture down on sticky yellow pads and taped it to bathroom mirrors, on cabinets, everywhere.
I just knew that God loved me so much, and He started showing me scriptures that were easy for me to understand and memorize.
Our Pastor, Jake Edwards, taught us Sunday that we need to memorize the Scriptures! We need to have them in our hearts.
Brother Ferguson made God’s Word come alive by saying this, “What if something happened and we didn’t have our Bibles…we must know God’s Word for so many reasons. We use His Word to pray for others, to pray for our families, and for praying to God about our needs. I love praying the Scriptures; they bring light to my heart, our hearts.
“He who has an ear, let hear what the Spirit says.”
Revelations 2:11
. . .Until you hear the voice of God. . .
But when you open up the Bible and truly hear the voice of God—His loving voice, His affirming voice, His graceful voice, His convicting voice, His authoritative voice, His powerful voice—your life begins to harmonize with the Holy Spirit.
I will give God all the glory! The night when I received Jesus into my heart and my life changed forever.
I was abundantly “BLESSED.” He also blessed me with a gift—the gift of speaking in tongues.
He is my Counselor every day. God has a purpose in teaching us how to understand Him through His WORD OF LIFE.
“Let us hold fast…without wavering…He who promised is faithful.”
