VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
Redeem, Reclaim, Recoup
“How on earth do you do what you do and get it all done?” That’s what I asked a friend over coffee one afternoon. She was married, homeschooling children, encouraging others, serving, writing—and somehow bubbling over with energy while I felt tired just listening!
Maybe I was getting old.
Good grief, it’s not a rash! 😂 Besides, Proverbs 16:31 calls gray hair a “crown of splendor.” Surely it still counts if some of my splendor is hiding beneath golden highlights?
Then my friend said something that grabbed me: “I fill every…single…minute.”
She didn’t spend much time watching television or scrolling social media. She intentionally used the time she’d been given. Immediately, I thought of Ephesians 5:15–16: “Be careful how you walk… making the most of your time” (NASB).
Ouch.
How often do our rathers steal our minutes? I’d rather watch the news. I’d rather check social media. I’d rather shop online.
None of those things are necessarily wrong. But they can become costly when unfulfilled goals and sour moods reveal that our time is making the least of us rather than us making the most of it.
The King James Version uses the word redeem—to buy back or recover. We can’t recover yesterday’s wasted hours, but God graciously gives us today. So where are your minutes disappearing? Maybe one small change—a sensible bedtime, less scrolling, a new morning habit—could redirect your days.
Ask God to help you redeem, reclaim, and recoup the time He’s placed in your hands. Today will soon become yesterday. So tie a new ribbon around the gift of today and offer it back to Him.
