EMPOWERING LIVES WITH PURPOSE:

Recently, I just went through a purging of my closet. It was really hard for me to let go of some of the things that I had. It was also a lesson to me as I put on my Bible app while doing it, and I began to listen to the Word. It was amazing what God taught me in those hours I devoted to packing up clothes…yes, it took hours to clean out my closet, and yes, God moved in those hours to pour so much into my heart.

Here’s a scripture that’s fitting. Not one I heard while purging, but definitely one to remember…
“Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven never get old or develop holes. Your treasure will be safe; no thief can steal it, and no moth can destroy it.” (Luke 12:33)

We need to make the greatest investments with any of our time, talents, and resources and place them into our heavenly bank.

My closet was weighing me down. I had way too much and needed to let go of some things and move on. I needed to give, so I did. As God was generous to me, I knew I needed to be generous to others and give away some of my beautiful things.

Jesus uses the stories to help us grow. He used the story of the wealthy man. The man wanted to know how he could have eternal life.

Jesus gave this man some investment advice when He said…
“Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven never get old or develop holes.” (Luke 12:33)

When I decided to release some of the assets I had here on Earth and then send them on ahead to heaven, I knew that gesture to “give” would last forever. I loved all my clothes, but I love Jesus more. And in fulfilling what He instructed me to do, I felt much better. I felt a weight lifted, actually.

How about you? Do you really need everything that you have? Perhaps it’s not clothes, but something else. When we are generous and we give, it’s such a blessing. When we do, it really helps change our perspective on needs and wants.

I felt a huge weight lifted when I packed up many piles of clothes into multiple huge bags and then shared them with people God put on my heart. Some were in need, some were just beautiful gifts to others…but it lifted me of the burden of a full to maxed out closet. Now I have a bit more room.

Funny thing is, my closet is still full, but so is my heart, and it is free; I have freedom from some of the excess weight that “hung around” for no reason. When we choose generosity, we are storing up treasures in heaven.
