EMPOWERING LIVES WITH PURPOSE:
When we invest in heaven, we will receive a return. Unfortunately, when we invest here on the earth with “things,” it is only temporary for the “now” in this lifetime.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves, treasures and heaven where neither moth nor rust destroys or where thieves do not break in and steal; for where your treasure is, there will your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-20)
There is no better gratification then when you understand that what is laid up for the good for Kingdom purposes it is permanent and brings satisfaction.
It took me many years of living in a life of extreme excess to learn very important answers to questions I’d have, ones that I saw rarely, if ever, got an answer to. Or at least an answer that honored God. I asked myself many times what this was going to do for my eternal home. Almost always, in the moments I found myself in a question, the answer was, unfortunately, one that couldn’t give me peace inside my heart. I saw so much sadness living in a world of opulence and abundance.
When I surrendered my life to Christ and then walked away from that lifestyle, I realized how temporary this earth is. The man I had lived with who had millions and millions had eventually passed away – with all his money. The saddest part of his passing was there was no one to honor him at his funeral. All that knew him honestly felt he’d have a stadium of people who would’ve attended to say their goodbyes. I ended up holding a small memorial dinner for his close friends who needed closure over his life and to at least honor a man who did so much monetary giving for others. It was the saddest thing I have ever seen.
The Bible says that Heaven and earth shall pass away (Matthew 24:35), and there will come a time when we need to answer for what is important to us here on earth. Our time, talents and offerings of goodness for God’s kingdom are what will stand for eternity.
“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.” (2 Peter 3:10)
The only thing that will last forever is the Kingdom of God. May we all invest wisely into the Kingdom that is precious and may we all see a return that will glorify our God and Savior forever.
