EMPOWERING LIVES WITH PURPOSE
“Guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it flow the springs of life.” (Proverbs 4:23)
This scripture tells us the importance of protecting our inner thoughts and motivations, which shape our actions and over all our lives.
Our heart is the source of our thoughts, feelings, and actions, and its condition significantly impacts our lives and relationships. I used to hear that saying when I was a teenager and never understood the depths of its meaning.
Those who loved me wanted me to be vigilant about what I was allowing into my mind and heart when it came to opposite-sex influences. But now I see the importance is so much more. It’s to gaurd it so I continue seeking to fill it with God’s wisdom and truth.
Pray to God for guidance and discernment, and study the Bible to learn God’s character and ways. This is one way to guard your heart.
Practice self-discipline, be mindful of your thoughts and actions, and choose to align them with God’s will for your life. When we get into God’s presence through prayer, worship, and fellowship with other believers, we will strengthen our spiritual foundation and have a guard against the enemy’s penetration schemes.
Please lean on God’s strength and grace, especially during times of difficulty or temptation in your life. It’s never easy to face those times, but guarding your heart is a must!
I’ve also learned to be cautious of negative people, media, and situations that could corrupt my heart and I remove myself from all of it wherever needed.
A heart that is not guarded can lead to a life that is filled ugly consequences…ones of regret, bitterness, and a lack of peace.
Proverbs 4:23: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Philippians 4:7: “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
