Learning to Fly with Cracked Wings

Did you know butterflies can fly with cracked wings?

Though delicate in appearance, butterflies are resilient. Even when their wings are damaged, they adapt and continue their flight. The cracks do not define their ability to soar.

There was a time in my life when I felt cracked too.
For years, I carried wounds from a trauma-filled childhood. I believed I had to become “someone special” to be worthy. I chased significance, thinking achievement would heal insecurity. But the deeper issue wasn’t success — it was identity.
It wasn’t until I surrendered my heart to Jesus that everything shifted.

In August 2014, God began healing what I had tried so hard to hide. He showed me that my worth was never tied to performance, talent, or approval. My value was rooted in Him. Slowly, He began mending the cracks — not by erasing my past, but by redeeming it.

Through journaling, prayer, and stepping into opportunities I felt unqualified for, I discovered something powerful: God equips those He calls. Even when we feel messy. Even when life looks broken.

Scripture reminds us, “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV).

Transformation doesn’t mean perfection.
It means renewal.

God still allows us to fly — even while He is refining us.
When we choose to see others through an eternal lens, we stop focusing on cracks and start noticing beauty. We begin to recognize the miracle in motion.

Your broken places do not disqualify you.
They are often the very places where God’s glory shines brightest.

So spread your wings.

Fly anyway.
