EMPOWERING LIVES WITH PURPOSE:
Where are your treasures? Do you have them hidden away in a drawer? Are they in a closet? Are they parked in your garage?
Is it in your bedroom? Many say that where our treasures are, there is our security. We should not idolize or love anything more than we love God.
God tells us we should not have our security in anything here on Earth.
“But seek first his Kingdom in his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” ( Matthew 6:33)
God offers us every opportunity to grow to be more like Him each day. Our security should be in God alone, and we understand the power of our loving God. God has all authority to give to us with open hands, but His generous giving, heaped upon us, should not be what we squander away, hold on to forever or even possess and make into an idol.
I used to think I knew what true love was, that I had it and that I could never lose it. Unfortunately, I idolized that love, thinking I was secure in it. But guess what? I lost it! And it was brutal. Through the heartwrenching demise of my first marriage, I learned the very meaning of keeping my eyes on Jesus, my first love.
It wasn’t until I understood the full meaning of what loving God with all my heart, mind and soul and loving Him FIRST looked like that my life transformed. As I walked through years of being alone with God and learning how to love God that, He then brought me the desires of my heart. Years later, God brought the man of my prayers to me. Now, together, we love and serve our Lord FIRST in everything inside our marriage. It is the most healthy love that reflects Jesus’ love, and we both treasure God above EVERYTHING else, including each other!
We should cherish God’s gifts to us, including our loved ones, as His treasures entrusted to us and that in His mysterious and miraculous ways, He gives them to us as a gift to cherish for a time and help others for Kingdom purposes. May we appreciate the treasures He gives, people or things, all for His glory.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on this Earth, where moths and vermin destroy and where thieves break in and steal. Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21)
God’s treasures are not the worldly treasures. His are worth sharing to help others see Him more dearly, more closely and more clearly.
