Can People Change?
Are you the same person today as you were 20 years ago? How about 10 years ago? A year ago or even yesterday?
Have you ever reconnected with someone and realized they were much different than you remembered? Do you give space for people to change?
I recently asked a friend about a person I met. She said she knew her 25 years ago and indicated there was something about her that she didn’t like.
I get it.
But, I don’t know about you, but I’m not the same as I was 40 years ago or even last month. I’ve gotten wiser and more mature. I’ve grown in humility and grace as I have grown in my relationship with my Lord.
Everyone changes, either for better or for worse. And we won’t know how people have grown or changed if we don’t talk to them and interact with them.
Do you find yourself putting people in a box and not letting them change in your mind? Let me encourage you to ask people questions and find out how they are growing. Share how you are growing. Let’s encourage and pray for one another to be our best and allow people to bloom.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV) says, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
When we see people whom we haven’t seen in awhile, will they notice a change? Will it be a change for the better?
There is only one who does not change. Scripture tells us in Hebrews 13:8 NIV, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. That gives me peace.
May we do as Jesus does. May we allow for change in the lives of others and welcome them into relationship with us.
