Beauty from Ashes
In February 2020, my world was shaken. My mom was diagnosed with lung cancer. One week later, my dad shared that he had bladder cancer. Watching both of my parents walk separate cancer journeys sent me into a deep place of grief and confusion. I cried out to God, unsure of what to do or say—only knowing He heard my groans.
Then, on April 28, 2020, everything changed again. While driving home from a hike with a dear friend, we were hit head-on by a drunk driver. The impact was devastating. In that moment, I knew my friend had died beside me. My life was forever altered.
In the midst of trauma, grief, and shock, God met me in a way I had never experienced before. His presence became unmistakable. His love surrounded me. During a season of stillness and healing, God brought Isaiah 61:3 to life in my heart: “He will give a crown of beauty for ashes.” And He whispered, “Through all of this, my daughter, I will make beauty from your ashes.”
A year later, I faced another unimaginable trial—breast cancer. Surgery after surgery followed. Yet through every moment, God never left my side. I did not have to strive for His love or prove myself worthy. He held me, carried me, and reminded me that nothing takes Him by surprise.
The God who created the universe knows every detail of your life. His love is extravagant, personal, and freely given. In the darkest valleys, He will sit with you, never leaving. I promise you—He can take your brokenness and turn it into something beautiful.
