Almost Made It
I wear many hats—Christian, wife, mama, comedienne, actor… and klutz. Graceful has never been my thing. Falling, however, has been a recurring character in the sitcom of my life. I’ve fallen while hiking, walking, rollerblading, and yes—standing still. When I fall, I go ALL IN.
One time, I fell off my bike and almost made it to the grass. I got up with what I thought was gravel in my mouth. Turns out—it was my two front teeth. I should’ve gotten a trophy: “Almost Made It.”
I’ve almost made the Top 3. Almost followed the recipe correctly. Almost adulted (clean sheets count, right?). Do you ever feel that way—like you’re almost making it? Close enough to taste victory, only to realize it’s not a grand slam in Game 7 of the World Series, but more like a Grand Slam on the Denny’s menu.
Thank God for Scripture. “The Lord sustains all who fall and raises up all who are bowed down” (Psalm 145:14). Falling hurts less when you’re already low. James 4:10 reminds us that when we humble ourselves before the Lord, He lifts us up. I’d rather stay low—on my knees—than keep slipping because I’m trying to run in heels on a slip-n-slide.
Here’s the truth: no one is ever truly Red Carpet Ready. It takes practice. It takes humility. And it takes obedience to God’s Word. When we follow His instructions, our testimony shifts—from “Almost Made It” to “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.”
Now that is worth celebrating.
