VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
The Heart of Worship
Years ago, I had a record deal. I was chasing what I thought was success and fulfillment — only to find myself years later carrying pain, disappointment, and self-inflicted heartache. I eventually vowed never to sing again. For a long time, I believed that chapter of my life was over.
Then, six years ago, I picked up my guitar again.
This time was different. Though people encouraged me to return to country music, I knew the songs I was meant to sing now were only for the Lord. One of the first songs I wrote was My Worship Song. I remember waking up that day feeling irritated with God for asking me to write again. I argued with Him, convinced I wasn’t “good enough.” In that moment, He gently showed me something life-changing: He is good enough — and that is enough.
As a worship leader, I sometimes feel the weight of expectations — wondering what to say, how to say it, or how to help people “feel” something. But that way of thinking is a trap. Worship was never meant to be about me. God reminded me that a life surrendered to Him is the most beautiful offering I could ever bring.
The Holy Spirit led me deeper, revealing that worship is far more than music. Jesus tells us to love God and love others (Mark 12:30–31). When we forgive, serve, or love well, we honor Him. Love is worship. All of life can be worship when our eyes remain fixed on the Lord.
Maybe you feel you have nothing to offer because you don’t sing or play an instrument. But God’s invitation is simple: bring your heart. The Holy Spirit does the work. His light shines through us — not because of us.
“Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship” (Romans 12:1, NIV).
