VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
What Happens When You Stop Believing?

What do you do when you stop believing that all things are possible? When hope feels distant… when prayers seem unanswered… when God feels far away?

These aren’t questions we often say out loud, but many of us have asked them in the quiet places of our hearts. I know I have.
Scripture tells us, “Do not fear, only believe” (Mark 5:36, ESV). Yet there are seasons when believing feels hard — when disappointment, loss, or unanswered prayers make God’s promises feel distant. We know the verses. We’ve memorized them. And still, sometimes they feel hollow.

I’ve clung to words like “God will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6) and “God is our refuge and strength” (Psalm 46:1). I’ve spoken them out loud even while hearing a voice whisper, “You’re a hypocrite.” But I’ve learned something important: that voice is not mine — and it’s not God’s. It’s the voice of the enemy.

The Bible warns us to stay alert, because the enemy prowls, looking for opportunities to deceive (1 Peter 5:8). He doesn’t need new tricks. He waits for moments of weakness, grief, or exhaustion. But here’s the truth: we are not powerless. Jesus said, “I have given you authority… to overcome all the power of the enemy” (Luke 10:19, NIV).

Even when we don’t feel it, “Greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). God is still working. He is still making a way — even when we can’t yet see it (Isaiah 43:19).
So how do we keep our hearts soft when life has been hard? We speak Scripture out loud. We worship. We remember what God has done before. We serve others. We thank Him — even in the waiting.

Because when we choose to keep believing, even imperfectly, God doesn’t just restore hope — He changes our story.
