VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
My Refuge

There are seasons when life does not unfold the way we planned.

Dreams shift. Doors close. Hope feels deferred. What once felt certain suddenly feels fragile.

Our family experienced a season like that. After stepping out in faith and moving far from home, circumstances beyond our control brought us back — humbled, uncertain, and living in a tiny RV outside my parents’ home. We were not only financially strained. We were emotionally exhausted.

Each morning felt like an act of obedience.
What now?
How do we begin again?
Will our children recover from this disruption?

In that place of broken expectations, I discovered something that moved from head knowledge to heart revelation: God truly is our refuge.

Psalm 91:1–2 says,
“He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty… He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him will I trust.”

I had sung those words for years. But now I had to live them.

Standing on the worship stage each Sunday, I offered God what little faith I felt I had. It seemed small. Fragile. Insufficient. Yet week after week, He met me there. My circumstances did not immediately change — but my heart did.
Refuge was not a change of location.
It was the presence of God.

Slowly, resilience returned. Strength grew. Hope rebuilt itself in quiet layers. And in time, our situation shifted too. But the greater gift was learning to trust Him not because of what I saw — but in spite of what I didn’t.

The secret place became my shelter.
And I learned that when everything else feels unstable, His presence never is.
