VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
He Heard My Voice
Jesus is described in Scripture as the Good Shepherd, and His followers as His sheep. Those who truly follow Him learn to recognize His voice above all others. Just as sheep instinctively respond to their shepherd’s call, God desires His people to hear Him clearly — even in the middle of chaos.
“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me” (John 10:14, NIV).
As one year came to a close, while many were celebrating new beginnings, I found myself lying in a hospital bed for seven long days, battling a severe kidney infection. I was alone, exhausted, and overwhelmed by the weight of loss, trauma, and fear. The enemy’s voice whispered lies of defeat, telling me nothing would ever change. Hope felt distant as pain and despair tried to take over.
But then — my Shepherd spoke.
As sunlight streamed through the hospital window, God’s presence filled the room. His voice cut through the noise, reminding me that He would never leave me nor forsake me (Hebrews 13:5). Peace returned. Hope was restored. I was reminded that what the enemy intended for harm, God would use for good.
Weeks later, after returning home, I went to see my horse, Journey Boy. When I called out to him across the pasture, he immediately stopped, lifted his head, and ran toward me. He knew my voice. He trusted it. Our relationship had been built over time.
In that moment, God gently reminded me how deeply He desires intimacy with His children. Hearing His voice begins with knowing Him. As we read His Word, pray, and spend time in His presence, our hearts become tuned to His voice. “Then He opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures” (Luke 24:45, NIV).
The Shepherd is still calling. Calling the weary. Calling the distant. Calling the hurting home. When we know His love, we will run toward Him — just as the sheep run to their Shepherd.
