VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
Should Christians Meditate?

Meditation often gets a bad reputation — especially in Christian circles. Many people picture something far removed from biblical truth. But what if meditation was actually God’s idea all along?

Before we go any further, pause for a moment. Sit quietly. Take a breath. And reflect on this verse:
“Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10, NIV)
Did you feel the tension begin to release? That peace you sensed wasn’t accidental — you just practiced Christian meditation.

The Bible doesn’t shy away from meditation. In fact, it encourages it. “Meditate on it day and night… then you will be prosperous and successful” (Joshua 1:8–9, NLT). Biblical meditation is not about emptying the mind — it’s about filling it with God’s truth.
When we intentionally meditate on Scripture, we create space for God to speak. This practice can calm anxiety, reduce stress, increase focus, open creative pathways, and deepen our awareness of God’s presence. More importantly, it strengthens our relationship with Him and helps us respond with wisdom when life feels overwhelming.

Meditation isn’t a modern concept hijacked by culture — it’s a timeless, God-given practice. Scripture references meditation dozens of times, and we see Jesus Himself withdrawing to quiet places to pray and commune with the Father. This kind of stillness allows us to experience “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding” (Philippians 4:7).

Meditation is simply focused reflection — pondering God’s Word, listening with our hearts, and allowing His truth to bring life and health to our whole being (Proverbs 4:20–22).
In a busy world full of noise, slowing down to truly listen to God is not optional — it’s transformational. When we create space for stillness, we open ourselves to the peace, clarity, and renewal God desires for us.
