VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
The Caregiver

Sharing the gospel often looks less like preaching and more like caring. Simple, quiet acts of kindness can speak louder than any sermon. As someone once told me, “Share the gospel everywhere you go. And when you have to, use words.” I have found that to be profoundly true.

Jesus modeled this kind of love. He cared for the hopeless, healed the broken, and fed the hungry. Scripture reminds us, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40, NIV). Caregiving, in its truest form, is gospel grace lived out.

My journey as a caregiver began unexpectedly. After my father-in-law was killed in an accident, my husband and I became caretakers for his mother as her health declined. Those years were hard — but they were also sacred. I watched love take shape in patience, sacrifice, and moments of unexpected joy. God was growing me, though I didn’t yet realize how much preparation was happening.

Years later, my husband was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. Once again, I was called to care — this time in ways that stretched me beyond what I thought I could endure.

Through it all, God’s Word became my anchor. “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep” (John 10:11, NIV). That verse asked me a question: Could I lay down my life in love?

Caregiving is not easy. It requires humility, patience, and perseverance. Yet Scripture tells us to “do everything in love” (Ephesians 4:2). In surrender, God meets us. He shapes us. He pours His grace through us.

Caregiving is a living picture of the gospel — love given freely, even when it costs us. May we offer that love to others as generously as Christ has offered it to us.
