VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
The Happiest Heart
A couple of years ago, I received a text from a girl a little younger than me. After briefly explaining what was happening in her life, she wrote something that stopped me: “Sarah, I don’t know what makes my heart happy.” How could someone not know what makes her heart happy? What sets her soul on fire? What she loves?
Then I realized something. You can’t fully understand what makes your heart happy until you know WHO created your heart in the first place.
For me, that answer has always been Jesus.
God’s Word has become like a best friend. It tells me that Jesus came so I could have abundant life (John 10:10). It reminds me that I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14) and that God knew me before I was even born (Jeremiah 1:5).
Following Jesus doesn’t mean I won’t experience sadness, obstacles, or difficult seasons. I will. But I’ve also discovered a joy that circumstances cannot cancel. Sometimes people don’t understand “the whole Jesus thing,” and I want to ask: Why not try it?
We can spend so much time worrying about what might happen if we surrender our lives to Christ that we forget to consider what might happen within us.
Imagine discovering forgiveness for every failure. The guidance of the Holy Spirit. The hope of heaven. A Savior who knows you completely and loves you anyway.
Who wouldn’t want that?
The young woman who sent me that message eventually discovered the answer for herself. Her journey with Christ hasn’t been without trials, but it has been marked by overwhelming victory.
My prayer is that you discover that same victory. Because the happiest heart isn’t one with a perfect life. It’s one that knows Jesus.
