The Gift of Today
Have you ever found yourself worrying about tomorrow before today has even begun?
I remember lying awake on Sunday nights, my mind racing with everything waiting for me in the coming week. Meetings I dreaded. Problems I couldn’t solve. Conversations I didn’t want to have. Before Monday even arrived, I was already exhausted by the “what ifs.”
The more I focused on the future, the more I missed the grace God had already provided for today.
The Israelites faced a similar struggle. Standing at the edge of the Promised Land, they allowed fear of the unknown to overshadow God’s promise. Instead of moving forward in faith, they turned back, delaying the blessing God had prepared for them.
How often do we do the same?
Jesus lovingly reminds us, “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34, NIV).
Looking back over my own life, I can see God’s faithfulness in every difficult season. The breakthrough didn’t always come when I expected, and it rarely looked exactly as I imagined. But every single day, God gave me exactly what I needed to make it through.
That’s the gift of today. Fresh grace. Fresh mercy. Fresh strength.
Tomorrow isn’t ours to carry. God never asked us to shoulder burdens that haven’t arrived yet. Instead, He invites us to trust Him one day at a time.
So take a deep breath.
Thank Him for today’s sunrise.
Receive today’s grace.
And remember that the same God who carried you yesterday is already waiting to walk with you through today.
