VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
Voices

There are a lot of voices in my head at different times. So I’ve learned to ask myself: What voices am I hearing? Which ones am I listening to? And which ones am I allowing to influence my life?

As parents of three independent, adventure-seeking adult daughters, my husband and I have had plenty of opportunities to practice listening for God! One daughter traveled alone, van-camping through New Zealand and Australia. Another moved from Virginia all the way to Anchorage, Alaska. Our middle daughter in Illinois suddenly feels practically next door. 😂

Watching your children make big decisions from thousands of miles away can be nerve-racking. We want to protect them, advise them, and occasionally say, Are you SURE about this?! But we’ve learned that the most important thing isn’t whether our daughters follow our voices. It’s whether they know how to recognize God’s.
Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27, ESV).

We learn His voice by spending time with Him through prayer and His Word. And as parents of adult children, our responsibility changes too. We can pray with them, offer wisdom, and listen carefully to what the Holy Spirit tells us to say—or sometimes not say.

We may not always agree with our children’s decisions. But when they have prayerfully sought God and He has given them peace, we can trust Him to continue directing their steps.
That applies to all of us.
The world is noisy. Fear is noisy. Our own desires can be noisy.
So stay close enough to God to recognize the voice of Truth among all the others.

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105, NLT).

Hear Him. Listen. And let His voice guide your next adventure.
