The Armor
One of my favorite passages in Scripture is Ephesians 6 and Paul’s teaching on the armor of God. Reading it in different translations has helped me see something important: God has not left us defenseless in the spiritual battles we face.
Paul tells us, “Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God” (Ephesians 6:10–11, NIV).
Why? Because our struggle isn’t merely against what we can see. There is a spiritual battle taking place, and we need the weapons God has provided.
Truth. Righteousness. Peace. Faith. Salvation. God’s Word. These aren’t simply beautiful Christian concepts. They are meant to be used. I love how The Message paraphrases this passage: “Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own.” What a reminder! We were never meant to fight spiritual battles in our own strength.
But there is another weapon Paul emphasizes: prayer.
He tells us to pray in the Spirit on all occasions, remain alert, and keep praying for God’s people. Prayer isn’t an afterthought to the armor—it is essential to the battle.
Think about attending a sporting event and cheering for someone you love. From the sidelines you’re calling, “Keep going! You’ve got this! Don’t give up!” As sisters in Christ, we can do the same through prayer. We can intercede when another woman is weary. Encourage her when the battle feels long. Stand with her when she feels like dropping out.
My precious sisters, let’s put on our armor every day and remain ever interceding for one another.
God has equipped us to fight. And we don’t have to fight alone.
Let’s pray, encourage, and cheer one another on until every one of us can say:
We fought to the finish—and by God’s grace, we’re still standing.
