VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
Learning What Matters Most

As a homeschooling mom, I spend a lot of time thinking about education. My children each have different strengths. One excels in geography, another loves reading and writing, and another shines in business and relationships. As they’ve gotten older, grades and transcripts have become more important, but I’ve realized something: the most valuable lessons in life aren’t measured by test scores.
Our children live in a world where information is available instantly. Answers can be found with a quick search or a simple question to technology. While academic learning is important, character development is even more valuable.

Galatians 5:22-23 reminds us of the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These qualities will impact our children far beyond any report card.
The beauty of homeschooling—and really, parenting in general—is that we have opportunities every day to teach these lessons. When siblings argue, we can teach forgiveness. When plans change unexpectedly, we can teach flexibility. When someone is hurting, we can model compassion and service.

These moments may seem ordinary, but they are shaping hearts.

The world often celebrates achievements, awards, and accomplishments. But God sees something deeper. He sees the character being formed beneath the surface.

Proverbs 22:6 encourages us to “Train up a child in the way he should go.”

One day, our children may forget specific facts from a textbook, but they will remember the values we modeled. They will remember how we loved, forgave, served, and trusted God.
Those lessons matter most—and they last forever.
