VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
Clare of Assisi

“What if you sold everything you had… and simply followed Jesus?”

That question challenges me every time I read the words spoken to the rich young ruler:
“One thing you lack… go, sell everything you have… then come, follow me.” —Mark 10:21 (NIV)

Clare of Assisi took those words literally.
Born into wealth and status, Clare was expected to marry well and elevate her family’s position. But instead, she chose something radically different—she chose Jesus.

At just seventeen, she walked away from comfort, security, and expectation to follow a life of poverty, prayer, and devotion. Inspired by Francis of Assisi, she embraced a calling that would shape not only her life but the lives of many women who followed.

She later wrote of her decision as a “great and praiseworthy exchange”—trading temporary things for eternal ones.
Her life causes me to pause and reflect.
What am I holding onto?
Where have I placed my security?

“Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth.” —1 Timothy 6:6 (NLT)
Clare’s story is not just history—it is an invitation.
An invitation to trust God fully.
To loosen our grip on what is temporary.
And to follow Him with wholehearted devotion.
