VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
The Power of Touch

God created us with senses that allow us to experience His world deeply — and one of the most powerful is touch.

Think about the grip of a newborn’s hand around a mother’s finger. A reassuring pat on the back. A hug that says, “I’m here.” Touch has the ability to calm fear, express love, communicate commitment, and offer comfort without a single word spoken.

But touch can also wound. A shove, a slap, or an abusive hand carries pain and darkness. This is why we must be intentional about the power God has placed in our hands.

Throughout Scripture, we see how Jesus used touch to minister healing and hope. In Mark 1:41, when a leper approached Him, “Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man… ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be clean!’” With one compassionate touch, what was considered untouchable was restored.

Jesus touched children and blessed them (Matthew 19:13–14). He took Jairus’ daughter by the hand and raised her to life (Mark 5:41). Even when a woman suffering for twelve years reached out to touch His cloak, healing flowed (Luke 8:43–48).

Touch communicates presence.
It communicates safety.
It communicates love.
Jesus did not need to touch in order to heal — He had authority to speak miracles into being. Yet often, He chose to touch. Why? Because touch carries connection.

As believers, we are called to reflect Christ’s character. Our touch — whether through kindness, gentleness, a handshake, or an embrace — can offer comfort, security, and compassion to someone in need.

Never underestimate the power in your hands.
God designed touch to minister life.
Use it wisely. Use it lovingly.
