VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
Jesus First
In John 3, we see an interesting moment unfold. Jesus and His disciples are baptizing, and so is John the Baptist. What should have been a celebration becomes, for some, a competition. John’s disciples are troubled — “Everyone is going to Him.” But John’s response reveals a heart fully surrendered to God’s purpose.
John reminds them that nothing of spiritual significance happens unless it comes from heaven. He was never meant to be the Messiah — only the one who prepared the way. Like a best man stepping aside for the bridegroom, John joyfully points all attention to Jesus. “He must become greater; I must become less” (John 3:30, NIV).
This passage invites deep reflection. When God allows us to witness His work in others, are we willing to step out of the spotlight? Or do we secretly crave recognition for ourselves? True discipleship requires humility — a willingness to fade into the background so that Christ alone is seen.
Later in the passage, John speaks again with clarity and conviction. Jesus comes from heaven and speaks with authority. The Spirit rests on Him without limit. And those who believe in Him receive eternal life (John 3:27–36).
The image that lingers is Jesus spending time in the countryside — and all were coming to Him. All. Even in quiet places. Even in wilderness seasons.
This raises an important question: have we gone out to seek Jesus in our own wilderness? In the dry places of our emotions, our doubts, or our waiting? He is there. He is speaking. He is inviting us closer.
Jesus has truth we need to hear. He is available — always. And when we put Him first, when we step aside and let Him take center stage, others are drawn not to us, but to Him.
All who believe in the Son have life.
