VOICE OF TRUTH FOR TODAY
Was That in the Script?
I recently debuted as a director, and everyone on set knew I was a Christian. Using humor (because… of course), I made it clear that coarse language wasn’t welcome. After all, “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful” (Ephesians 4:29, NLT).
To reinforce the point, I placed a urinal on set — lovingly named Mr. Potty Mouth — and anyone who slipped up made a financial contribution. Hey, the set was my mission field, and I needed to set the tone early.
My cast and crew trusted my voice. When I said, “Quiet on set” or “Action,” they responded. I was the director.
But Jesus is my Director — and one day, He called me out.
The King of Glory let me know I wasn’t following His script. My heart attitude? Not great. Psalm 19:14 stopped me in my tracks: “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, Lord.” I had used the phrase, “The Lord knows my heart,” one too many times — and yes, that was exactly why He was convicting me.
I wanted a change… but first I had to stop throwing my own little hissy fit long enough to hear His voice. Philippians 2:2 gave me the answer: “Have the same attitude as Jesus… sharing the same love, united in spirit, and keeping one purpose in mind.”
That was the antidote.
So I started with a simple prayer: “Lord, forgive me for my bad attitude. Fill me with joy.” Because here’s the truth — a bad attitude hates joy. And joy? Joy changes everything.
Being Red Carpet Ready means doing the hard work of checking our hearts, adjusting our attitudes, and following God’s script — even when it cuts a little. Thankfully, I have the greatest Director of all… and yes, the queen-size chocolate bar probably helped too.
